Argentina’s Milei Attacks UN, Citing Security, Rights and Israel

Argentine President Javier Milei criticised the United Nations during his address to the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. He said the body had moved away from its founding goals of defending international law, national sovereignty, human rights and peaceful cooperation. Milei accused the UN of failing to guarantee collective security and of being ineffective against violence and international terrorism. He also criticised its voting record on Israel and its approach to governments accused of human-rights abuses. The president restated Argentina’s alignment with the United States, Israel and Western allies. He also raised Argentina’s dispute with the United Kingdom over the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as the Malvinas, and called for renewed negotiations.
