Shettima Clarifies Remark on Northern Governors’ Support for Tinubu

Vice President Kashim Shettima says his earlier remark about six northern governors supporting President Bola Tinubu referred to consultations before the APC presidential primary in June 2022. His office says the comment was not meant to suggest that northern APC governors failed to support Tinubu after he emerged as the party’s candidate. The governors later backed the campaign that led to Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election. Shettima says he respects the governors and other APC leaders for their contributions. He also regrets any interpretation that suggested he questioned their support.
