Kwankwasiyya Threatens Legal Action Over Alleged Opposition Clampdown in Kano
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has accused the Kano State Government of suppressing opposition voices through arrests, detention and intimidation. It says it will pursue legal and institutional remedies rather than confrontation. The movement cited concerns raised by Amnesty International and alleged that several critics of the state government have faced harassment or prosecution. It highlighted the case of Aiha K Nass, who it said has remained in detention since August despite being granted bail under conditions he has been unable to meet. The group said it has petitioned the Kano State Chief Judge and the Judicial Service Commission over proceedings at the Shari’a Court in Ungogo. It called for an impartial review of cases involving people allegedly targeted over political expression and urged supporters to remain peaceful.
