Navy Rescues 22 Passengers After Boat Hijack on Calabar–Ibaka Waterway

The Nigerian Navy has rescued and accounted for 22 passengers after armed sea robbers hijacked a wooden passenger boat on the Calabar–Oron–Ibaka waterway. The boat was attacked shortly after it passed Enwang Community while travelling from Henshaw Town Beach in Calabar to Utan Uyata, Ibaka. Personnel of the Navy’s Forward Operating Base Ibaka worked with Operation Delta Safe Sector Four and the Marine Police to locate the victims and recover the vessel. Eleven passengers were found abandoned at Asak-Ikang Creek, while another 11 who escaped during the attack were later accounted for. All passengers received medical checks and first aid before returning safely to Calabar. The Navy said no ransom was paid.
