Ekiti Trains and Equips 100 Persons With Disabilities for Self-Employment
The Ekiti State Government has graduated and equipped 100 persons with disabilities after five months of skills training at the Ekiti State Skills Acquisition Centre in Ilokun, Ado Ekiti. Participants were trained in ICT, tailoring, hairdressing, shoemaking and catering, with practical placements under experienced artisans. Beneficiaries received accommodation, monthly feeding and transport support during the programme, as well as start-up equipment and grants to begin their businesses. The state also included 10 parents of children with severe disabilities, supported by a therapy centre that cared for their children while they attended training. State officials said the programme has expanded from 30 participants in 2023. They added that 81 persons with disabilities have been employed in state and local government service, while hundreds of disability-owned businesses have received support.
