Bandits Kill One, Abduct 31 in Fresh Katsina Community Attack
Armed bandits attacked Shuwaki community in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday night, killing one resident, injuring at least seven others and abducting 31 people. A former Bakori council chairman said the gunmen operated for nearly two hours, rustling livestock and stealing phones and other devices from charging centres. They initially abducted 32 residents but released one woman near Doma village after she became too ill to continue. Most of those still held are women, including some with infants. Security personnel and members of the Katsina Community Watch Corps reportedly responded after being alerted but could not stop the attackers or rescue the victims. No ransom demand had been received at the time of the report. Residents say repeated raids in Bakori communities are forcing families to flee and disrupting farming during the rainy season. Community leaders have urged federal and state authorities to strengthen security and secure the release of those abducted.
