Soyinka Warns Against AI Replacing Human Creativity
Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has warned that artificial intelligence should support human progress without replacing the imagination, originality and intellectual work of people. Speaking at the NLNG Grand Award Night in Lagos, Soyinka said the growing use of AI to produce poetry, academic theses and other creative work could weaken human creativity. He also raised concerns about digital replicas of writers and public figures being used to imitate their identities online. Soyinka called for closer collaboration between the sciences and humanities. He said imagination is essential in both fields and urged society to ensure that machines complement humanity rather than diminish it.
