Tinubu Pledges Support as Police Unveil 2027 Election Security Roadmap
President Bola Tinubu has pledged Federal Government support for the Nigeria Police Force to deliver peaceful, credible and secure elections in 2027. He said the police must remain neutral and protect voters, electoral officials and democratic institutions. Speaking at a conference for senior police officers in Owerri, Tinubu called for stronger intelligence gathering, faster response times and deeper community engagement. He also said the government would improve the force’s operational capacity, welfare and institutional effectiveness. Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu unveiled a six-pillar election security roadmap focused on early intelligence, officer training, joint-agency coordination, rapid communication, public partnerships and political neutrality. He warned politicians against vote-buying, violence, illegal arms and the use of thugs, while pledging sanctions for officers who compromise the electoral process.
