Ekiti Police Arrest Five Over Alleged Assault and Humiliation of Woman Accused of Witchcraft
Ekiti State Police Command has arrested five people over the alleged assault, public humiliation and online harassment of a woman in Agbado-Ekiti. Police said the woman petitioned the command after suspects allegedly invaded her home on June 20, assaulted her and accused her of witchcraft in connection with a resident’s death. She was allegedly subjected to degrading treatment, while footage of the incident was reportedly recorded and shared online. The suspects are being investigated for alleged conspiracy, cyberstalking, cyberbullying and assault causing harm. Police said efforts were continuing to arrest other people allegedly involved. The state commissioner of police condemned jungle justice and said allegations of witchcraft do not justify violence, humiliation or any form of degrading treatment.
