Florida Executes Inmate Who Killed Cellmate in Bid for Death Sentence

Florida has executed James Robertson, 63, for the 2008 murder of his cellmate, Frank Hart, at Florida State Prison. Robertson died after receiving a three-drug lethal injection and declined to make a final statement. Robertson pleaded guilty to first-degree murder after strangling Hart while he slept. He waived his appeals and told investigators he committed the murder because he wanted a death sentence rather than spending the rest of his life in prison. Hart was killed eight days before his planned release from prison. His daughter said her family will continue to carry the pain of his violent death.
