Two Nigerians Jailed in UK Over £279,000 NHS Medical Supplies Fraud
Two Nigerians have been sentenced in the United Kingdom over a £279,000 fraud involving medical supplies stolen from Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and sold back to the same NHS trust. Former NHS worker Emmanuel Nbanga, 46, received an eight-year prison sentence for stealing operating-theatre supplies between October 2016 and September 2019. Solomon Adeyemi, 57, owner of Ultimate Medical (UK) Ltd, was jailed for seven years for fraudulent trading. Remilekun Olusesi, 40, received a 30-month suspended sentence for money laundering. Investigators said the hospital trust spent almost £233,000 repurchasing stolen stock. The company also supplied allegedly substandard items, including warm-up jackets, needle containers and drug labels, which the trust said could not be safely used for patients. The fraud was uncovered after staff noticed unusually low prices and found identification numbers on new deliveries that matched earlier hospital orders. More than £16,000 worth of stolen NHS supplies was recovered during searches.
