Police Arrest Mother, Others Over Alleged Staged Abduction of Two-Year-Old
Police say they have uncovered an alleged plot to fake the abduction of two-year-old Rito Jesse Davou and demand ransom from the child’s family. The child’s mother, Catherine Davou, and Nansik Wuyep Sule were arrested after investigators alleged that the child was kept at Sule’s home while ransom demands rose from ₦7 million to ₦15 million. Luka Emmanuel Butdam was also arrested over alleged ransom calls to the child’s grandmother. The child was rescued safely, treated and reunited with his father. In a separate case, police arrested Idris Mohammed, also known as Yellow, and Mohammed Bello Adams over the alleged kidnapping of a commercial driver who was reportedly released after a ₦3 million ransom was paid. Police said the victim’s Toyota Corolla was recovered in Bauchi and that the suspects were also linked to another kidnapping case involving a pastor and his driver.
