Ebonyi Police Rescue Three Children, Arrest Suspects Over Alleged Trafficking Ring
The Ebonyi State Police Command says it has uncovered an alleged child-trafficking network accused of using fake marriage plans, job offers and fraudulent adoption arrangements to take children from their families. Three children have been rescued and several suspects arrested. Police said the case began after a mother reported that her five-month-old baby and 11-year-old child were taken when she was lured to Awgu, Enugu State, on the pretext of meeting prospective in-laws. Her baby was later recovered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while efforts continue to find the 11-year-old. Investigators also linked the suspects to the alleged theft of another child after a woman was deceived with a fake job offer. Police said further operations in Imo and Enugu uncovered alleged illegal adoption arrangements, including claims that a baby was sold for ₦2.5 million. The command advised prospective adopters to use recognised government channels and said all suspects connected to the case would be prosecuted if found culpable.
