FG Begins Plans for Nationwide 112 Emergency Number
The Federal Government has directed key agencies to develop an operational roadmap for the nationwide rollout of 112 as Nigeria’s single toll-free emergency number. The committee includes the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Communications Commission, National Emergency Management Agency and Federal Road Safety Corps. It will prepare standard operating procedures for approval by the National Economic Council. Vice President Kashim Shettima said the plan must follow global best practices and improve coordination among emergency responders. The 112 line is expected to make it easier for Nigerians to report fires, road crashes, medical emergencies and security incidents without searching for different helplines.
