Reps Fast-Track Tinubu’s State Police Bill with Clause-by-Clause Review
The House of Representatives has started a clause-by-clause review of President Tinubu’s state police bill. Lawmakers plan to adopt the Senate-approved version with only minor changes. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu said the process will build on work already done by the Senate. He stressed the urgency of a multi-layered policing system to strengthen Nigeria’s security. Kalu noted the bill has passed its first and second readings and that public hearings during National Assembly Open Week satisfied stakeholder engagement requirements. He urged the Constitution Review Committee to reflect Nigerians’ aspirations in its recommendations. He added that both chambers are collaborating to harmonize their versions. The committee will examine the eight minor Senate amendments as it prepares the bill for final passage.
