Mexican Court Jails Three Men for 158 Years Each Over Murder of Three Surfers
A court in Mexico has sentenced three men to 158 years and nine months in prison each for the 2024 murder of Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and their American friend, Jack Carter Rhoad, during a surfing trip in Baja California. The three men were convicted of homicide, aggravated robbery, violent robbery and vehicle theft. Prosecutors said the victims were attacked during an attempted robbery near Punta San José after the attackers targeted parts of their pickup truck. The men disappeared in April 2024, and their bodies were found in a well on May 3. Authorities said all three had been shot in the head, while their truck was later discovered burned. The court also ordered compensation for the victims’ families. A fourth defendant, who was found with one victim’s phone and testified during the trial, had earlier received a 20-year prison sentence.
