US Judge Rejects Trump Bid to Delay Possible Alaska Senate Result
A US federal judge has dismissed the Trump administration’s attempt to block certification of Alaska’s Senate election result if Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan loses. The administration alleged that another candidate with the same name could split votes meant for the senator. Democratic candidate Mary Peltola denied recruiting the other Dan Sullivan to cause confusion. Judge Sharon Gleason ruled that changing election procedures so close to voting could confuse voters and discourage turnout. The Justice Department had sought an investigation before any result could be certified if Peltola won.
