Lagos Scrap Dealer Arrested for Faking Kidnap to Extort ₦1.5 Million
Police in Lagos have arrested a scrap iron dealer, Adamu Abdullahi, for staging his own kidnap to extort money from his employer. The probe began after his brother reported him missing on May 19. A video later surfaced showing him being beaten and threatened unless a ransom of ₦1.5 million was paid. Detectives found no signs of injury on Abdullahi when he returned home. Under questioning, he confessed and named three accomplices, including Adelowo Olalekan Akorede and Yusuf Lukman. Officers also recovered ₦490,000 that Abdullahi had diverted from his business funds. The workshop used to film the fake kidnap video was seized and police are now pursuing the remaining suspect.
