Audit Finds $287,906 Unused and Four Unserviceable Vehicles at Nigeria’s Malabo Embassy

A review of Nigeria’s embassy in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, found that $287,906.60 earmarked for renovations remained unused between January 2019 and December 2020. The funds were intended for the Chancery, Ambassador’s Residence and Recreational Complex, while ₦45.36 million had also been released for the project since 2018. Inspectors reportedly found that the Chancery urgently needed renovation. The embassy said it had written to headquarters and was awaiting approval to begin the work after completing due process. The review also found that four of the mission’s seven official vehicles were beyond economic repair and had not been written off. The embassy said it was awaiting approval to dispose of them. The findings point to delays in managing public assets, not proof that the funds were stolen.
