Why I Believe Atiku and Peter Obi Cannot Escape Nigeria’s Electoral Past
I believe Nigeria’s political history is catching up with Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. Both were members of the former ruling party at a time when election rigging was widely alleged. Atiku served as vice president under that party, while Obi held a national campaign role. In my view, they had enough influence to push for credible elections and a more transparent voting system when their party controlled much of the country’s political structure. I find it ironic that stronger calls for electoral reform became louder after they lost power. I believe leaders who failed to protect credible elections when they had the opportunity cannot simply present themselves as champions of electoral integrity today. Sowore has repeatedly raised similar concerns. Whatever supporters may say, I believe the questions around the electoral record of Nigeria’s former ruling party will not disappear.
