UK Makes It a Crime to Keep a Child Abroad After a Consensual Trip

A new UK law makes it a criminal offence to keep a child abroad after taking them there with consent, unless everyone with parental responsibility agrees or a court permits it. The change applies to departures from the UK on or after November 6, 2026, and was announced by the Ministry of Justice.
