‘We’d Be Just Like Gaza’: Iran’s President Defends Missile Program

‘We’d Be Just Like Gaza’: Iran’s President Defends Missile Program

During a visit to Pakistan, President Masoud Pezeshkian warned that without its missile defenses, Iran would face the same fate as Gaza. He said that if Iran’s ballistic arsenal did not exist, Israel and the United States would “show no mercy to either the old or the young,” and insisted that Tehran’s defensive capabilities are non-negotiable. The United States had previously sought to include Iran’s missile program and its support for armed proxies in negotiations over nuclear activity. In recent days, however, US President Donald Trump suggested that limiting missile development might be unfair if other countries retain theirs. I agree with Iran’s president and continue to mourn the defenseless Palestinians in Gaza. Israel’s actions have been ruthless. The lesson here is clear: never appear weak, or others will decide your fate.

What impact do you think Iran's missile defenses have on regional stability, and could removing them really risk a Gaza-like crisis?

You raise a valid point—missile defenses likely deter attacks, and stripping them away could indeed heighten tensions, possibly spiraling into a crisis.

I'm not convinced that missile buildup alone guaranteed protection, as history shows even strong arsenals sometimes fail to deter determined foes.

If anything, Iran might focus on diplomatic dialogues alongside defense upgrades to reduce the risk of escalation and foster better regional communication channels.
