Police Investigate Mob Killing of Two Suspected Robbers in Calabar
Two men suspected of robbery were beaten to death by a mob in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State on Saturday night, August 29, 2026. Their bodies were reportedly found along Ekpo Abasi Street near Yellow Duke. Police evacuated the remains after residents gathered at the scene on Sunday morning. One of the deceased was said to be a scrap-metal dealer in the area, although authorities have not confirmed this. The Cross River State Police Command said preliminary findings show that residents apprehended the men on suspicion of robbery before attacking them. The command condemned the killing, urged residents not to resort to jungle justice, and said an investigation is underway to identify the deceased and establish the full circumstances of the incident.
