Anambra Commissioner Praises Obi’s Record, Disputes Claim of Zero Liabilities
Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, says Peter Obi performed well as governor. He said the state government’s review of Obi-era financial records is not intended to undermine Obi or his presidential ambition. Mefor said the disagreement concerns Obi’s claim that he left no financial liabilities for subsequent administrations. He also questioned the claim that ₦12.13 billion was left in an ecological fund account at a UNIZIK branch of First Bank, saying the government found no evidence of the stated balance after requesting the account records. While the financial claims remain disputed, I see the commissioner’s remarks as an acknowledgment of Obi’s record in office. Mefor also said there is no rift between Governor Charles Soludo and Obi, describing both men as politicians with interests to defend.
