Lagos Court Remands Trader Over Alleged Defilement of Five-Year-Old Girl

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 43-year-old trader at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over the alleged defilement of a five-year-old girl in Ojo, Lagos. The defendant was not asked to enter a plea. The court ordered his remand pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions and adjourned the case until September 30. Prosecutors alleged that the man lured the child into his shop at the Trade Fair Market in Aspanda with the promise of money. The child’s uncle, whose shop was nearby, was said to have responded to her cries and caught the defendant. The alleged offence is punishable by life imprisonment under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, if the defendant is convicted.
