Nigerian in Ghana: Why a Stronger Cedi Did Not Make Life Easier
A Nigerian creative who has lived in France and Côte d’Ivoire shares his experience of settling in Ghana after losing his remote job in Nigeria. He says the cedi may be stronger than the naira, but daily expenses, accommodation and services can still be costly. Finding work without local documentation was also difficult, pushing him to take blue-collar jobs and build his own tech venture. He speaks about Ghana’s welcoming people, public beaches, the jollof rice rivalry, his short-lived traditional marriage introduction and why he still misses the freedom and familiarity of home. His advice to Nigerians planning a move is to travel with savings, useful skills and realistic expectations.
