Two Delta Police Officers Demoted After POS Extortion Caught on Camera

Two Delta Police Officers Demoted After POS Extortion Caught on Camera

The Delta State Police Command has demoted Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim. They were filmed inside the Asaba ‘C’ Division station using a POS terminal to collect money from a motorist on January 13, 2026. An orderly room trial found both officers guilty of extortion, discreditable conduct, and disobedience under the Police Act 2020. Commissioner CP Yemi Oyeniyi reduced Jeremiah to Sergeant and Ehirim to Constable. CP Oyeniyi reminded all formations that no officer may demand or receive money from the public. He urged his men to maintain professionalism and invited citizens to report misconduct to the state complaint unit.

It's disturbing that officers resorted to POS extortion inside a police station, yet internal trials still rely on departmental findings.

I'm not convinced demotion alone sends a strong enough message—criminal charges would match the severity of this extortion.
