Makinde Denies Receiving ₦50bn Federal Support for Ibadan Airport Upgrade
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has denied Nyesom Wike’s claim that President Bola Tinubu provided ₦50 billion for the upgrade of Ibadan’s Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport. Makinde said neither he nor the Oyo State Government received the money, maintaining that the airport project is being funded entirely by the state. Wike had said the funds were provided to support plans to upgrade the airport to international standard. The project was flagged off in September 2024 at an initial cost of ₦41 billion. The domestic terminal upgrade was completed in October 2025, while work on the international terminal and related customs and immigration facilities is still ongoing. The disagreement adds to the political differences between Makinde and Wike ahead of the 2027 general election.
