Spyro Shares How Childhood Abuse and Distrust Still Affect Him

Nigerian singer Spyro has spoken about the lasting emotional impact of his difficult relationship with his father while growing up. He said some of the beatings and accusations he faced as a child remain vivid more than 20 years later. The singer recalled being accused of stealing and being publicly embarrassed, even when he had done nothing wrong. He said these experiences left him feeling angry and unheard whenever he was around his father. Spyro also shared a painful memory from primary school, when his father allegedly did not believe he had been injured by a school cleaner and later punished him severely. He said his mother’s love and support helped him cope with the trauma and prevented it from changing him for the worse.
