Nigerian Forum Accuses UK High Commission of Unauthorised Passport Charges
The Nigerians in Diaspora Civic Forum has accused the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom of imposing unauthorised charges on passport applicants using the special intervention programme. The group said the approved fees are $150 for a five-year passport and $230 for a 10-year passport, excluding bank charges. It maintained that neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigeria Immigration Service introduced additional fees. According to the Forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the High Commission should clarify the postal-order payments allegedly demanded from applicants and resolve the issue. The intervention programme was created to make passport renewal easier for Nigerians in the UK, particularly those planning to travel during the festive season.
