National Assembly Vows Full Support for Tinubu’s Security and Economic Reforms
Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the National Assembly will deepen collaboration with President Bola Tinubu to tackle insecurity and drive key economic reforms. Akpabio highlighted that organised insurgent attacks have decreased, with no territories under Boko Haram control. He outlined plans to establish a regulated state policing system under a national framework and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report threats. On the economy, he commended recent reforms that ended fuel subsidies, harmonised tax systems and eliminated multiple exchange rates. Akpabio also noted infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Lagos-Badagry-Sokoto road corridor, which includes 74 dams set to boost agriculture. He revealed the National Assembly is considering raising statutory funding for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund from 0.5% to 1% of federation revenue and pledged ongoing legislative backing for policies that promote long-term growth and security.
