Israel Surrounds Bint Jbeil Following Deadly Strikes on Hezbollah
A senior security official says the IDF has killed more than 1,500 Hezbollah fighters since launching Operation Roaring Lion. Israeli forces have now moved to encircle the key border town of Bint Jbeil after a surprise wave of strikes on mid-level Hezbollah commanders. Troops caught dozens of militants off guard as they tried to flee. Others remain barricaded inside as units clear the town based on recent intelligence from Military Intelligence and Northern Command. The Shiite town of Bint Jbeil holds symbolic weight after a landmark speech by Hassan Nasrallah in the 1990s. Despite Iranian calls to include Lebanon in a ceasefire deal, Washington and Jerusalem have agreed to separate the two fronts. Iran has threatened to retaliate by closing the Strait of Hormuz, but officials assess it is unlikely to launch direct strikes on Israel.
