Court Hears Ansaru Planned Oriire School Kidnapping With Alleged Al-Qaeda Support
A DSS operative testified at the Federal High Court in Abuja that Ansaru members allegedly planned the May 15 attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State with support from Al-Qaeda. The witness said the group abducted students and teachers to pressure the Federal Government into releasing detained leaders. According to the testimony, the attackers submitted a list of 30 people they wanted released and threatened to kill victims if their demands were not met. Five men are standing trial over their alleged roles in the attacks. The witness said security agencies later rescued victims, although two victims and some security personnel were killed before the operation was completed.
