NITDA Warns Nigerians Not to Share Sensitive Data With Public AI Tools
The National Information Technology Development Agency has warned organisations and workers against entering personal, confidential or classified information into public AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot. The agency said information submitted to these platforms may be stored, logged or used by service providers. This could expose personal data, internal documents and government information to cybersecurity and data-protection risks. NITDA advised users to rely only on approved AI tools for official work. It also urged them to remove or anonymise sensitive details, review platform privacy policies and obtain permission before uploading internal documents. The warning comes as regulators and organisations raise concerns about data breaches, employee errors and the growing security risks linked to AI use.
