Peter Obi Vows Jail Terms for Election Riggers and Certificate Forgers
Peter Obi says election officials and other individuals found guilty of rigging elections would face prosecution and jail terms if he becomes president in 2027. Speaking at an NDC town hall meeting in Nasarawa State, Obi said electoral manipulation must be challenged and that reforms should strengthen political parties and the electoral process. He also proposed stricter eligibility rules for candidates. According to him, anyone seeking elective office should be able to show clear evidence of attending primary and secondary school. He said forged certificates or false claims of qualification should attract imprisonment. Obi added that no one, including INEC officials and top public office holders, should be above the law.
