DSS Arrests Highlight Need for Stronger Intelligence-Led Security
The arrest of five suspects linked to the abduction of 20 prospective NYSC members, alongside the reported arrest of fugitive Faisal Maina, highlights the role of intelligence in tackling insecurity. Nigeria needs stronger intelligence gathering, surveillance, digital forensics and cooperation among the DSS, police, military, EFCC and other agencies. Security agencies must be able to identify criminal networks, prevent attacks and track suspects before more lives are put at risk. The Federal Government should provide adequate funding, technology, training and oversight for intelligence operations. Those connected to the NYSC abduction should also be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
