Nasarawa Reps Aspirant Alleges NDC Dropped Him After Primary Win Because He Is Muslim

Zahradeen Ahmad Zangina, a House of Representatives aspirant of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nasarawa State, alleges that the party removed his name after he won its primary for the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency. Zangina claims he was told the party intended to field only Christian candidates for House of Representatives seats in the state. He says the decision amounts to religious discrimination and violates the principles of internal democracy. He alleges that a party official communicated the decision to him and says he has a Hausa-language video recording that supports his account. An image shared with the claim appears to list Ahmad Zaradeen Zagina as the party's candidate for the constituency. The aspirant has urged the NDC leadership, INEC, civil society groups and religious leaders to intervene. His allegation follows other reported complaints by NDC aspirants over primary elections, candidate substitutions and alleged support-fee demands.
