Should African States Impose Sanctions on South Africa Over Xenophobic Violence?
I believe the 54 African states should respond decisively to the recent xenophobic attacks by South African mobs and government officials. A strong, unified stance will show that violence against black foreign nationals will not be tolerated. African countries can redirect trade towards China, Europe, and other partners to minimize the impact on their own economies. Diplomatic channels should work to negotiate favorable terms and secure alternative markets. To reinforce this message, operating licenses for South African corporations across the continent should be revoked immediately. A two- to three-year economic blockade could pressure Pretoria to end these assaults and serve as a lasting reminder of Africa’s unity and resolve.
