81 Schoolchildren Still Held by Terrorists: Falz and CSOs Slam Government Over Inaction
Civil society organisations and activists have condemned the federal government over its failure to secure the release of 81 Nigerian schoolchildren abducted by terrorists. As Nigeria marked Children’s Day, dozens of pupils and teachers remain in captivity with little sign of a rescue operation. The abductees include 39 pupils and seven teachers kidnapped inside schools in Oyo State, where one teacher was recently beheaded, and 42 children seized by suspected Boko Haram militants in Borno State. Activists question why Nigeria’s advanced surveillance and military resources are not being used to locate the missing children. They have called on President Tinubu and security agencies to act swiftly. They also urged Nigerians, organised labour, youths and civil society groups to embark on peaceful, nationwide protests demanding improved security and the immediate rescue of all abducted schoolchildren.
