Leaked Audio: Akpabio Says Okowa Joined APC Over EFCC Probe Fears

Senate President Godswill Akpabio allegedly said former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa joined the APC because he feared an EFCC investigation, according to a leaked audio conversation. Akpabio also allegedly claimed he helped Okowa secure the APC senatorial ticket for Delta North ahead of the 2027 elections. Okowa had previously said his defection from the PDP was driven by Delta State’s need to connect with the Federal Government. The EFCC had earlier questioned Okowa over allegations involving N1.3 trillion in oil derivation funds. The commission has said its investigation remains ongoing despite his move to the APC.
