Atiku Demands Full Ledger of Federation Funds and Subsidy-Removal Gains
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has asked President Bola Tinubu’s administration to publish a detailed account of federation revenues, deductions, savings and transfers. He said the July 2026 Federation Account figures raised further questions about funds generated since the removal of petroleum and energy subsidies. Atiku said his reconciliation of publicly released figures showed that about ₦28 trillion required explanation as of June 2026. With the July figures included, he said the amount needing transparent reconciliation was approaching ₦30 trillion. He cited gaps between revenue reported as available and the amounts distributed by the Federation Account Allocation Committee. Atiku called for a monthly, beneficiary-by-beneficiary breakdown of all deductions, transfers and spending from June 2023, including the legal authority and destination for every amount removed before distribution. He also questioned why Nigeria continues to borrow if subsidy-removal savings and higher revenues are available, asking the government to show Nigerians where the money was kept, transferred or spent.
