Bandits Kill Islamic Teacher, Abduct 10 Residents in Sokoto Village
Bandits attacked Gidan Kare village in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Thursday, killing an Islamic teacher, injuring one resident and abducting at least 10 others. Residents said many people in Gidan Kare routinely spend the night in nearby Tureta town because of repeated attacks, returning home each morning. The attackers reportedly hid in a primary school and opened fire after villagers returned to the community. Those abducted reportedly include Mallam Dan Manga, Shehu, twins Hassana and Hussaina, Badaru, two children of Mallam Ayuba, Saratu and two others. The deceased was identified as Mallam Abubakar Danjimme, while Dan Abu was injured. Residents fear more people may still be missing and have called on the government and security agencies to strengthen protection for communities affected by bandit attacks.
