Hong Communities Face Renewed Insurgent Attacks as Residents Demand Stronger Security
Communities in Hong and nearby Gombi Local Government Areas of Adamawa State are facing renewed attacks, displacement and fear. Residents say armed groups operating near the Borno border have raided villages including Dabna, Garaha, Mubang, Zah, Gaya-Dlang, Bitirhuya and Banga, killing civilians and security personnel, burning homes and shops, and abducting residents. The report links the attacks to suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, as well as bandits and kidnappers using abandoned settlements and border routes for movement and supplies. It alleges that poorly staffed military positions, weak intelligence sharing and the lack of forces to secure communities after attacks have left villages exposed. Residents and local stakeholders are calling for a joint Adamawa-Borno security corridor, a stronger forward base in Garaha, better support for local intelligence networks, drone surveillance and protection for displaced farming communities. They warn that continued attacks could deepen displacement and threaten food production across the area.
