Presidency Challenges Atiku to Address Alleged $500,000 Mambilla Bribe
The Presidency has challenged Atiku Abubakar to respond directly to allegations that he received $500,000 in connection with the Mambilla Hydropower Project contract. In a statement, presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga accused Atiku of avoiding journalists’ questions about claims raised during proceedings involving Sunrise Power and former Power Minister Olu Agunloye. The Presidency alleged that the contract was awarded without approval from the Federal Executive Council or former President Olusegun Obasanjo. It further claimed that the alleged payment was sent to an account linked to Atiku’s former wife and was flagged during investigations in the United States. The Presidency also said Nigeria could have faced multibillion-dollar liabilities if Sunrise Power had succeeded in its Paris claim. The allegations are the Presidency’s position, and Atiku has been urged to give his response.
