Ogilisi Igbo: Rommy Ezeonwuka’s Bold Vision Shaping Nigeria’s Future
Rommy Ezeonwuka, known by his traditional title Ogilisi Igbo, has quietly shaped Nigeria’s history. He is a builder of ideas and a bold entrepreneur. His journey began with a young man who saw opportunities where others saw barriers. At age 21, he founded Rojenny Tourist Village near Onitsha. It featured a 30,000-seat stadium, a zoo, pools, and learning spaces. It was the first privately owned stadium in Nigeria and set new standards for leisure and sports infrastructure. In 1976, he travelled to Taiwan to study motorcycle parts production. He introduced fibreglass technology and local bamboo toothpick manufacturing to Nigeria. These innovations spurred industry in the southeast and created new markets. He then invested in youth football, hosting the Golden Eaglets at Rojenny and supporting their education. He also ventured into large-scale farming and spoke often about practical power, strong industries, and honest leadership. His stadium still stands, his businesses still grow, and his legacy continues to inspire.
