Ojukwu had the home advantage but never used guerrilla tactics. He could have dug trenches, laid ambushes and cut supply lines. Instead, his forces were overwhelmed and forced to surrender. Compare this with Boko Haram’s 17-year resistance or Niger Delta militants who forced talks in 2016. Simon Ekpa’s militia even held territory for five years before his arrest. This history shows Ojukwu fell short where others endured. I’ve also read he executed experienced commanders like Victor Banjo despite lacking battlefield expertise himself.
