Femi Kuti: Nigerians and Political Elite Share Blame for Tinubu’s Emergence
Femi Kuti says President Bola Tinubu should not bear sole responsibility for Nigeria’s current problems. He argues that political institutions and citizens who allowed him to contest the 2023 election must also be held accountable. Speaking in an interview, Kuti questioned why allegations and controversies linked to Tinubu did not prevent his candidacy. He said leaders with integrity would have stopped any candidate considered unfit before the election. Kuti also pointed to the long-standing ties within Nigeria’s political class. He noted that former EFCC chairman Nuhu Ribadu now serves as National Security Adviser under Tinubu, arguing that such continuity makes accountability difficult. He warned that hardship, insecurity and weak accountability could leave young Nigerians with little faith in their future or in the political system.
