ICC Condemns US Sanctions as Trump Administration Targets Court Over War-Crimes Cases
The Trump administration has imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court, blocking assets under US jurisdiction and giving American individuals and companies six months to end dealings with the tribunal. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused the court of politicisation and of improperly pursuing Americans and Israelis over alleged war crimes. He said Washington would bar transactions with the ICC and pursue further action if it continued its investigations. The ICC condemned the measures as an attempt to obstruct justice and weaken international law. Court President Tomoko Akane said the tribunal would continue to carry out its mandate independently and urged member states to defend the rule of law. The Netherlands, which hosts the ICC, described the sanctions as deeply regrettable and said the transition period could allow room for dialogue.
