Lebanese Government Bans Non-State Weapons in Beirut After Deadly Strikes
On Thursday, Lebanon’s cabinet ordered the immediate removal of weapons held by non-state groups in Beirut “out of concern for citizens’ safety,” Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced. President Michel Aoun stressed that only the Lebanese state should negotiate any ceasefire and defended the move to extend army and security control over the capital. Information Minister Paul Morcos reported at least 203 dead, 33 missing, and over 1,000 injured from Wednesday’s Israeli attacks. Ministers affiliated with Hezbollah opposed the decision, while the government plans to submit an urgent complaint to the United Nations Security Council. The cabinet also reaffirmed that Lebanon should not be used as a bargaining chip in broader regional talks. Only in Beirut? Una never serious. Call on UN, France, UK and Spain to help you disarm Hezbollah. If not una go dey collect from Jacob.
