Trader Shot Dead as Gunmen Ambush Kofai Amadu Market in Taraba
On Thursday, May 28, gunmen opened fire around 4:00 p.m. at a busy trading hub in Kofai Amadu community, Takum LGA, Taraba State. Farmers and traders scattered for cover when shots suddenly rang out near the yam market. Amid the chaos, witnesses reported seeing armed men moving near a settlement about two kilometres away. Later, the body of a young man with gunshot wounds was found. Community members alerted the police, who secured the scene and restored calm. A police spokesperson confirmed the victim’s death and said the attackers, described as a Fulani militia, ambushed people returning home to retrieve belongings. Investigations are ongoing as residents urge stronger security surveillance in the area.
